Coping with Stress Course Shows Proven Results for Adolescents At Risk for Depression
The Coping with Stress Course (CWS) is a proven program recently added to the PPN site that targets adolescents who are at risk of developing depression. This program focuses on teaching coping strategies in an effort to provide adolescents with the skills needed to counteract their vulnerability to depression and other mood disorders later in life. Participants in the program have experienced significant reductions in depressive episodes and symptoms, as well as other depression-related measures.
Adolescents Coping with Depression Course Shows Promising Effects for Depressed Teens and Their Parents
The Adolescents Coping with Depression Course (CWD-A) is another new program on the PPN site that shows promising effects for adolescents who are already experiencing high levels of depression. The program teaches a variety of skills to cope with and relieve depression, including techniques for assertiveness, relaxation, cognitive restructuring, mood monitoring and more. The program also includes a group intervention for parents to encourage their support and reinforce the adolescent's use of these coping skills, and to teach parents communication and problem-solving techniques.
